Timeless Pattern
The herringbone layout has been used in European homes for centuries. It works equally well in period properties and modern interiors.

UFH Compatible
Our engineered herringbone range is suitable for underfloor heating — the stable plywood core prevents warping under temperature changes.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between herringbone and chevron flooring?
In herringbone, the boards meet at 90° and the plank ends are cut square — creating a broken zigzag. In chevron, the boards are cut at an angle and meet at a point, creating a continuous V or arrow pattern.
Is herringbone flooring more expensive to install?
Yes — herringbone requires more cuts and careful planning to ensure the pattern is centred correctly. Expect installation costs to be 20–40% higher than straight plank flooring.
What size boards work best for herringbone?
For standard rooms, 90mm × 400–600mm boards work well. Larger rooms can take wider blocks (120mm+). Narrow blocks (70–80mm) suit smaller rooms or hallways.
Can herringbone flooring be used in hallways?
Yes — herringbone works particularly well in hallways and entrance areas where the pattern runs the length of the corridor.
Is engineered or solid better for herringbone?
Engineered is generally preferable as the stable core handles the stress of the herringbone pattern better and is suitable for UFH. Solid herringbone is available but requires more precise installation conditions.
